Mitsubishi Electric tests 5G solution for Factory Automation in Japan

Japanese multinational electronics firm Mitsubishi Electric recently announced that its Nagoya Works in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture has commenced a demonstration testing of a local 5G solution that has been licensed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, Government of Japan, for use in a limited capacity and with a different frequency band than the ones used by the mobile operators.

Reportedly, the company aims at deploying the 5G network solution to provide novel services and businesses comprising of a wide array of Factory Automation (FA) and other offerings.

Apparently, the test has been developed to confirm wireless transmission between local 5G stations and FA products offered by Mitsubishi. Moreover, the test will help to ascertain many uses of the local 5G systems like remote operation and maintenance and the use of augmented and virtual reality to improve the efficiency of work.

For the record, the latest 5G technology that provides ultra-low latency, ultra-high internet speed, and facilitates multiple connections will provide support to the advanced infrastructures with the help of frequency bands that are allocated to the telecom companies.

As per reliable sources, in December 2019, Mitsubishi started accepting applications for the local 5G platform to allow the regional government and firms to meet the changing communication needs such as the increasing use of IoT enabled devices.

Notably, the company is building a local 5G network for complete solutions that comprise of advanced communication systems and 5G technologies along with its wide range of products and services, working closely with customers and partner companies to establish new businesses and services.

Citing sources, Mitsubishi Electric is likely to launch the demonstration test at other business locations and will set up new 5G infrastructures at its different business laboratories and sites. The 5G Open Innovation Laboratory which is expected to commence operations at the firm’s Information Technology R&D facility in Kamakura by FY ending March 31, 2021, will be used as the base to carry out joint research and demonstrations with customers and partner companies to develop new services.
