Airbus records 38% rise in deliveries; Lufthansa readjusts A350 orders
  • Shares of Airbus rose by 0.5% during Tuesday trading.
  • Lufthansa’s reshuffling orders were a part of its fleet restructuring efforts.

European multinational aerospace giant Airbus has reportedly managed to supply 50 airplanes in May and has raised the number of total deliveries to 220, which is 38% higher as compared to the same time last year.

These deliveries also comprised of the first A380 superjumbo jets to Dubai’s Emirates in December. There are four more airplane deliveries left before the airliner stops its production and assembling following lower than anticipated sales, cited sources with relevant information.

Shares of Airbus rose by 0.5% during Tuesday trading.

The planemaker has also confirmed an order of five A350 wide-bodied aircraft from Lufthansa that was announced last month. However, the German airliner then reshuffled its orders by canceling three A350.

This reshuffling of the order was a part of Lufthansa’s fleet restructuring efforts, with the company purchasing five additional Boeing 787-9 jets which interestingly didn’t have any buyers.

It is worth mentioning here that Boeing has been struggling with 787 production complications. Both Airbus and Boeing have encountered a decline in demand for wide-bodied long-haul aircraft in the recent past, which was worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Airbus had managed to secure a total of 94 orders to date, however, displayed a negative sum of 31 after adjusting the cancellations, sources claimed.

According to seasoned experts, Airbus deliveries were likely to increase significantly in June since it is the end of the quarter, and momentum until now has encouraged higher production plans. Some suppliers have also reportedly announced reservations about Airbus’ plans.

Boeing, meanwhile, claims to have delivered around 94 airplanes between January and April as well as booked 84 net orders inclusive of all the cancellations and other accounting alterations.
