BMW India records highest growth in a decade; delivers 8,876 vehicles

BMW Group India has reportedly logged its highest growth in 10 years last year as it delivered 8,876 units of vehicles including both MINI and BMW models, along with 5,191 motorcycle units. Sources stated that 8,236 vehicles were sold under the BMW brand, whereas the remaining 640 units belonged to the MINI brand last year in the country.

For the record, BMW India reported a 35% year-on-year growth in sales, with the locally produced Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) series, which includes models like the BMW X3, X1, and X5, accounting for 40% of the total. Models like the BMW X7, M 340i xDrive, and 3 Series Gran Limousine experienced a lot of interest and were either sold out or had long wait times of several months.

The BMW 3 Series and 5 Series sedans continued to be strong contributors in the sedan market, as did the exclusive versions launched for Indian customers during the festive season.

Speaking of the sales, BMW’s two-wheeler segment BMW Motorrad India saw a 102.5% increase in sales over 2020, with the G 310 R and G 310 GS models accounting for almost 90% of all sales. Other BMW models, such as the R 18, R1250 GS, S 1000 RR, GSA, and F 900 R / XR, C 400 GT scooter were also well-received by motorcycle enthusiasts.

On the other hand, the MINI brand saw a 25% increase in annual sales from 2010 to 2020, with the locally made Countryman model accounting for more than half of all sales. The MINI Hatch and Convertible each accounted for 18% of total sales.

Vikram Pawah, President at BMW Group India was quoted saying that by increasing the flexibility and foresight in business operations, the firm can overcome unpredictably volatile market conditions and grow its market share.

Notably, the Group's financial services division played an important role in boosting sales performance by providing customers with customized as well as flexible financial solutions.
