COOEC-Fluor announces safe completion of module program in Kuwait

Fluor Corporation, a global engineering and construction firm, has reportedly announced that its JV COOEC-Fluor fabrication yard in China, has securely completed the module program for the Al-Zour project of KIPIC (Kuwait Integrated Petroleum Industries Company) in Kuwait.

Chris Vertanness, VP and Director, Operations at the yard, reportedly stated that the COOEC-Fluor yard had completed its modular program within a period of 24 months right from the beginning of steel fabrication to loadout of the last modules. The team of COOEC-Fluor have accomplished various fabrication and logistics achievements by closely working with Fluor-led JV team and the company is looking forward to show what their yard could do.

For this milestone to be achieved, COOEC-Fluor had delivered approximately 188 modules in 20 different shipments, weighing a combined 65,000 metric tons. Additionally, the yard fabricated around 95,000 carbon pipe spools, along with stainless-steel and alloy based pipe that will be installed by the project team present at the site.

One of the key points in the KIPIC Al Zour project’s execution strategy was to leverage COOEC-Fluor for modular assembly and fabrication. Furthermore, labor at the project site was reduced significantly due to large scale modularization performance in the fabrication yard, resulting in enhanced safety performance, cost efficiency and less strain for the local labor market.

The project had been executed with a persistent focus on safety, health and environmental performance with an achievement of a lost-time injury rate of 0.02 and a total incident rate of 0.06. The shipment of final module that weighs 8,600 metric tons has been shipped and has arrived at the project site recently.

Fluor is a renowned JV which is working towards delivering two engineering, fabrication, construction and procurement packages for crucial process support units, infrastructure and utilities for the refinery project of Al-Zour in Kuwait.

The new complex, after completion is anticipated to be probably one of the biggest refineries in the whole world, producing around 615,000 barrels of oil per day.
