Monkeypox declared state of emergency by the Government of California

The Governor of California has issued a state of emergency for monkeypox to speed efforts to expedite the fight against the outbreak. In a statement, Gavin Newsom claimed that the state is working with the federal government to get more vaccines, increase awareness about lowering risk, and stand with the LGBTQ community in battling stigmatization.

According to California’s governor, the recent announcement will assist the state in coordinating with a federal response, locating additional vaccines, and leading outreach and education initiatives on where people may get treatment as well as vaccines.

Speaking of which, under Newsom's proclamation, pharmacists, as well as emergency medical personnel, will provide monkeypox vaccines that have been approved by the federal government. The state's response is a continuation of the steps taken during the Coronavirus pandemic to set up vaccination drives and ensure it reaches specifically vulnerable populations in cooperation with local and community-based groups.

Even the Democrat State Senator Scott Wiener of San Francisco praised Newsom for his decision and mentioned that monkeypox is to be dealt with with every possible tool available to eradicate it as soon as possible.

In addition to the sharing of linens, towels, and clothing other close skin-to-skin contact such as hugging, kissing, and cuddling, can all result in the transmission of the monkeypox virus.

However, the monkeypox variant found in this outbreak is not deadly, and patients often recover in a matter of weeks. But the blisters caused by the virus are found to be distressing, and if they are developed in the anus or throat and can make it difficult to swallow or defecate.

Interestingly, California has received more than 61,000 vaccination doses, delivered more than 25,000 doses, and increased the number of tests it can handle per week to more than 1,000.
