New Zealand has recently recorded its first death linked to the Pfizer COVID-19 jab. This information comes after the country’s health ministry sanctioned the review of the death of a woman by an independent COVID-19 vaccine safety monitoring board.

The board has been considering the cause of the woman’s death to be myocarditis, an inflammation of cardiovascular muscles which can limit the heart’s ability to pump blood and result in fluctuations in heartbeat rhythms.

The health ministry reportedly said that the case has been referred to the coroner, but the cause of death has not been determined. Meanwhile, the independent board stated that the myocarditis was probably a side-effect of the jab.

Furthermore, the board noted that the patient was suffering from some other medical issues during the time of the vaccination which may have influenced the outcome of the shot.

The benefits of the Pfizer vaccine greatly outweigh its side effects as well the risk of COVID-19 infection, cited sources with relevant information.

The AstraZeneca, Pfizer/BioNTech, and Janssen vaccines have been provisionally approved by the New Zealand government. Among these, the Pfizer jab alone has been approved for a public rollout.

After approximately six months of being virus-free, New Zealand is currently combatting an outbreak of the Delta variant. The country reported 83 locally acquired cases on August 29, 82 of which were in Auckland, the epicenter of the outbreak.

Jacinda Ardern, the Prime Minister of New Zealand extended the nationwide lockdown which was imposed earlier this month till midnight on August 31. However, Auckland will remain locked down for longer.
