Tesla sets record of delivering 241,300 units during the third quarter

Tesla Inc. has reportedly delivered a record-breaking 241,300 electric vehicles during the third quarter of this year, significantly exceeding expectations. The news comes as other U.S. automakers have been experiencing a severe drop in sales due to the global chip shortage crisis.

According to a recent study, Tesla's newer Model 3 sedan, as well as the Model Y crossover, accounted for about 96% of deliveries, while the Model X and S vehicles made up around 9,275 of the total deliveries. Tesla’s deliveries had increased by 20% in the second quarter and by a whopping 73% over the same period as compared to the previous year.

It is worth noting here that Tesla’s production numbers have also seen significant growth as it produced 237,823 EVs in the third quarter, setting another record for the company. Tesla's CEO Elon Musk also showed appreciation through a tweet for meeting delivery and production targets and thanked the suppliers & logistics partners for coming through despite enormous difficulties.

While Tesla was breaking records, other automotive giants were facing a significant drop in sales in the United States. Speaking of which, General Motors claimed to have sold around 446,997 vehicles in the country, a striking 33% drop as compared to the same quarter last year.

GM had also announced to have shut down several operations this summer, primarily due to the global shortage of semiconductor chips as well as other issues with batteries for its Chevrolet Bolt EV and EUV vehicles.

Despite this, GM said it will keep its full-year adjusted earnings of USD 11.5 billion to USD 13.5 billion, as it continues to research ways to minimize the implications of the semiconductor shortage and the recent Chevrolet Bolt EV recall.

Meanwhile, Stellantis reported an 18% reduction in sales while Ford has yet to release this year’s delivery figures.
