Texas Instruments launches new MCU portfolio with enhanced performance

American technology company, Texas Instruments Inc. has recently introduced a high-performance microcontroller (MCU) portfolio, coined Sitara AM2x MCUs, featuring improved analytics, real-time control, and networking applications.

Using the new MCUs, designers will be able to attain 10 times the computing capacity of conventional, flash-based microcontrollers, sources claimed.

The portfolio bridges the gap between MCUs and processors, enabling engineers to traverse beyond the traditional limits in applications such as robotics, automotive systems, and sustainable energy management.

General Manager for Sitara MCU at Texas Instruments, Mike Pienovi, was quoted saying that designers have critical requirements for high-performance systems at lower costs to meet the demand for complex analytics, precise control, and fast communications.

Pienovi further stated that the Sitara MCUs host TI's industry-leading real-time control, processing, and advanced networking features, which enable engineers to seamlessly break performance barriers in emerging applications.

The Sitara portfolio has been developed around Arm MCU cores and incorporates specialized accelerators and peripherals, with single and multicore devices that can achieve speeds up to 1 GHz.

Notably, the system simplifies the execution of high-performance processing capabilities with accessible tools and software that reduce design cost and complexity while streamlining overall evaluation.

TI’s portfolio also features devices hosting four Arm Cortex R5F cores, each capable of achieving speeds of up to 800 MHz.

Such high processing speeds have substantial utility in the robotics segments, where fast computations and the microcontroller’s internal memory translate to enhanced productivity.

Meanwhile, to reduce the complications in design and development, the company has introduced a development kit which enables prompt evaluation of high-performance MCUs.

Preproduction editions of the AM2434, AM2432, and AM2431 are available for sale on the company’s website in 11x11mm or 17x17mm packages, cited sources close to the matter.
