Ceragon Networks Ltd., an Israel-based networking equipment vendor, has reportedly been chosen by the Brazilian subsidiary of Telecom Italia, TIM Brazil. The duo will participate in the TIP (Telecom Infra-Project) and INATEL (National Telecommunication Institute) trials to test 5G OpenRAN services providers.

This open field trial will be taking place on INATEL campus and will involve hardware and software vendors, university members, operators, and other TIP working groups. Sources confirmed that the apparent trials will be led by TIP who has been promoting disaggregated and open solutions for telecom networks for a while.

Moreover, these trials aim to test and authenticate various combinations of OpenRAN components with different suppliers, while measuring their performance under commercial network-like conditions.

The recent development will not only provide recognition to open-network hauling solutions of Ceragon but also mark a considerable step forward towards its contribution to Brazil’s network deployments in the upcoming years.

Meanwhile, Head of Architecture & Innovation Technology at TIM Brazil, Silmar Palmeira, was quoted saying that the outcome of the TIP 5G OpenRAN trials will help strengthen the Ceragon and TIM alliance. He added that the project will provide significant development initiatives to manufacturers and academia, further expanding the software sector.

TIM Brazil will deploy Ceragon’s next-gen, ultra-high capacity IP-50E millimeter wave solution, which can apparently deliver around 20 Gbps speeds.
